The Granny Smith comes from Australia. Its skin is of intense green with small white specks. It is very round and of white, creaking and juicy flesh, with acid flavour. Its flavour really goes out to shine when it is baked or is cooked.
It needs a warm climate for its total ripeness and possesses a period of extensive growth. It is rich in pectin, sugars and vitamin C and has medicinal properties.
